A bedtime read with my 3 year old, that she enjoyed to the point of acting it out all through our family holiday!

What a breath of fresh air Isadora Moon is to the 5-8 category. A great representation of the ability to be different while not compromising on 'girly-ness'. Isadora's stories are funny and charming, and the artwork inside is just beautiful.

Can't wait to check out the rest of the series!

This first book introduces us to Isadora's family and she receives the surprising news that she must start attending school. Her vampire father naturally thinks she will thrive in vampire school, while her fairy mother thinks she will adore fairy school. Isadora feels torn between the two, because she is both vampire and fairy. She loves some things that vampires do, and dislikes some. She likes some things fairies do, and dislikes some. She tries vampire school and fairy school for one day and doesn't feel like she fits in either place. Perhaps the human children, whom she's seen pass by their house on the way to human school, might help her find a place where she belongs.

Told with sweetness and humor, as well as touching earnestness, this book will likely resonate for many children who feel "different" or might help develop empathy in the child who needs to welcome someone who perhaps feels that he or she doesn't quite fit in.

This is such a sweet, funny, quirky chapterbook about the value of being different - as shown through the story of a vampire fairy with an animated stuffed bunny, a vampire dad and a fairy mum. Isadora Moon isn't like other children, she's half vampire, half fairy. Her dad is a vampire and Isadora loves flying at night and she likes bats. Isadora loves pink and black, she has a pink bunny that accompanies her everywhere, Pink Rabbit, she likes bats, she has unruly black hair and everything about her is a mix of vampire and fairy. That makes her special and like nobody else. She's cute with her fangs, and pink and black and white clothes. She's friendly and sweet and unique, so the question is where she'll fit it. Every child that goes to school has to deal with making new friends and being part of a group and Harriet Muncaster smartly uses this as a theme for her first Isadora Moon story, which makes the story both fun and easy to relate to.

Harriet Muncaster's artwork is stunning. I loved every drawing in this beautiful Isadora Moon book. The combination of pink and black works very well and it makes the story come to life in a fantastic vibrant way. Each drawing perfectly suits the writing. Harriet Muncaster is talented in many different ways and her stories are bursting with creativity. Isadora Moon Goes to School put a big smile on my face, it's a wonderful story and I highly recommend it.

A young girl, who is half fairy and half vampire, has to decide where to go to school.

I found this a bit of an odd idea for a book and although it had many good points it didn't captivate me.

This was a fantastic beginning chapter book that I read with my 6 year old daughter. She loved reading about the half-vampire/half-fairy and how Isadora learned that she doesn't need to be full vampire or full fairy. The colors and illustrations in the book were spot on and my daughter is already begging me to find the other books in this series.

Ah, what a good read. Indeed. Penned by my friend author, mum, illustrator, this book is for keeps if you have children and even if you don't. The tagline being- its okay to be different. Although some people, in their lives, prefer being ordinary while others try to fit into boxes, this book dispels the notion that we can try to fit in those boxes but find your own corner because life is about your joys, passion likes and dislikes and nobody can ever tell you what you should like or dislike.

The book looks very tiny, but it's bigger than I expected. It's a nicely sized hardback, with raised glittery parts on the cover.

Since this is the first book, we are introduced to Isadora Moon and her family for the first time. She's half vampire and half fairy - her father is a vampire, and her mother is a fairy. Her baby sister is a halfling too! They live in a half black, half pink house, and she has a stuffed pink rabbit - which her mother put a spell on so it's alive.

I guess Isadora is around 6 years old, since her parents tell her that it's time to start school. But since she's half vampire and half fairy, will she go to vampire school or fairy school? Her parents decide that she attends one day at each school so she can decide.

I'm just gonna give it all away since I already guessed the plot after I read the back of the book, so I assume most adults will too. Just don't tell the children! ;)
Isadora goes to fairy school, which doesn't go too well. Maybe she is a vampire after all?
The next night (after not sleeping all day) she goes to vampire school - and that doesn't go well either.

The next day she sees human children outside. She notices that they are all unique and beautiful. They start talking to her, and get along well. Then Isadora decides that she will go to regular human school! Her parents are appalled at her decision, they think humans are weird. Isadora confronts them with the fact that THEY might be the weird ones. They accept it, aand happy ending.

I wish we could have seen Isadora try normal school too though, but maybe that'll happen in another book. Other than that I loved it! It's an adorable story! And it definitely has a beautiful message, which all children (and even some adults) should learn.
I definitely recommend it to everyone (for their children or themselves, no shame in reading children's books, I love reading them myself)! I will definitely be getting the other books.
I also follow the author on social media, she's as cute as her books!

Isadora Moon is completely unique, being a half-vampire half-fairy girl. Her life is going perfectly when her parents decide that she needs to start going to a magic school, either Fairy School or Vampire School. She can't decide on her own and so her parents decide she should try both. Isadora starts out at the very pink, cupcake shaped Fairy School, but things do not go well. She struggles to fit in and ends her day upset and thinking that she must be a more vampire than fairy. The next night she tries out Vampire School, but she doesn't feel right there either. Then she meets and talks to human children who are all different and yet get along, so she runs to her parents and declares her decision: she is going to human school!

This is a light-hearted take on an issue that can cause quite a few tears in school-aged children. Isadora is an energetic and spirited girl struggling to celebrate her uniqueness while also wanting to fit in and make friends. That conflict is one that will really speak to kids who are facing their own school troubles even though they aren't vampire-fairies. The bright black, white and pink illustrations carry the story through and make sure the beginning chapter book reader isn't too overwhelmed with text. They also help illustrate the stark contrast between the two sides of Isadora with the bubblegum pink fairies and the vampires with their dark castles and cloaks. Those fun illustrations coupled with short chapters and a compelling storyline combine to make this a joy to read at the early chapter level.

Isadora Moon is a breath of fresh air, and she just might remind some readers that it's okay to be oneself and not choose one aspect of one's identity over another. The daughter of a fairy and a vampire, Isadora has a beloved stuffed toy that her mother had brought to life, and she thinks her world is pretty much perfect. Things change when her parents decide she must go to school, and to her parents' disappointment, she doesn't do well at fairy school or vampire school. Things change when her parents decide she must go to school, and to her parents' disappointment, she doesn't do well at fairy school or vampire school. As it turns out, Isadora has an idea of her own, and she decides that neither one of those will work for her. Instead, because of a friendly encounter with some local school children, Isadora decides to attend regular school for humans. This sweet and humorous story is deceptively simple, but it contains a great message about being true to oneself and not trying to fit into the boxes someone has in mind for you. I had to laugh at her disastrous attempts at figuring out the routines at both of her schools. This may well be the first book I've read that features a fairy and a vampire, and the use of pinks and black and white colors works well to show the difference in the characters and how her parents make their influence felt in Isadora. ...more

She loves being a fairy and a vampire, but this year Isadora has to start school and must decide which school to attend. When she starts at Fairy School she can't get magic quite right, and they hate her black tutu, but when she tries to go to vampire school she can't fly like the other vampire kids and they won't allow Pink Bunny to come with her. Trapped in between, Isadora feels very out of place and very upset. How will she attend school when she doesn't fit either mold? Will Isadora ever find her place?

Questions
1) Why didn't Isadora like Fairy School? Why didn't she like Vampire School? What school is she going to now?
2) If you had to pick between, fairy school, vampire school, or human school, which would you pick? Why?
3) Have you ever felt out of place? What did you do to change the situation?
4) Predict what will happen when Isadora starts going to human school. Do you think she'll finally find her place?
5) Write a chapter of the story from Pink Bunny's perspective.

If you could cast a spell on one item and make it come to life, what would you cast a spell on?
Tell us about a time when you had to make a difficult decision on your own even if your parents weren't on board with you.
If a half fairy, half vampire wanted to go to your school how would that make you feel?
If you had the choice would you consider yourself more of a fairy or more of a vampire and why?
If you could be a mix between any imaginary creature what would it be? Ex: half dinosaur half unicorn

Some notes for Spanish speakers out there: I speak SUPER Mexican Spanish (¡viva México!) and because that I had some difficulties with this book. The translation is suuuuuuuuuuper Spanish (like from-Spain Spanish) and used many different vocabulary choices I wasn't familiar with, include some verbs I'd never heard of and a couple of new expressions. It should be noted that my adorable Spanish intern also read this and had no problems with it, so it's clearly a regional linguistic note. Bottom line, if you're Latino (or Latino-Spanish speaking, like me) have WordReference handy. Or maybe you were better educated than me, and this doesn't apply.

My daughter couldn't wait to read more each day, she even said when we finished the book that we needed to go any buy the next book. The story was great and had a lesson that Isadora learnt. Who wouldn't love a story about a girl who is half fairy, half vampire?!
We loved how well our daughter got on with it and it's her birthday at the end of the month and we have brought the next book in the series. She's going to be so happy that she can carry on finding out about Isadora's life.
